Balanced Training

Tail Talk Dog Training employs a balanced approach that opens up clear lines of communication between dogs and their families. This balance is achieved through motivation, reward, and correction, tailored uniquely to each dog and their family. As we discover more about both the dog and the owner, we uncover the perfect mix that brings out the best in every partnership. It's about celebrating progress, fostering understanding, and creating lasting harmony in every home we work with.

So what does this mean for my dog?

Consider which one or two of these personalities sounds like your dog.

My dog is happy-go-lucky - they are generally the most wonderful dog, but sometimes they are stubborn and won't listen even if they know what they are supposed to do.

My dog is shy - they tend to be uncomfortable around new people or animals. They are super loving at home, but when we go to new places they run away and hide.

My dog is hyperactive - they have so much energy and feel out of control. Daycare or other social outings are great fun, but rarely slow them down for long. They are nice, but lack basic manners.

My dog is anxious - they tend to act out with repetitive barking, lunging, and/or biting when they are uncertain or fearful. They don't get out much, but if they do we are using management strategies such as muzzling to keep everyone safe.

My dog is aggressive - they will find ways to bully others to get their way. This includes behavior that looks protective, but may actually be possessive. The family may feel unsafe and unsure how to manage the dog's behavior.

Tail Talk Dog Training embraces your dog's unique personality, history, and motivations to find what works for them. We also explore your family dynamics and the goals you have for your beloved canine companion. Ultimately, we want to build confidence and communication for both owner and pup!

Tools & Techniques

Reaching your goals with your furry friend requires patience and understanding. It's important to move at your dog's pace and build momentum towards obedience. By doing so, you can create a harmonious living environment for your entire family. Remember, communication is a two-way street, and with time effort, you can achieve your desired outcomes.

Training tools and techniques are essential for teaching dogs new behaviors and reinforcing good habits. We want to communicate with our dogs when they are doing something well and not meeting our expectations. We will use physical and verbal praise. We may use collars such as martingale collars, slip chain collars, and prong collars to communicate as well as 5-foot leashes and long lines. Food and toys can be motivators and rewards during training sessions. For dogs with a bite history, basket muzzles may be introduced to ensure safety and reduce anxiety.

When we begin training, we introduce each tool and method to both owners and dogs to ensure everyone feels comfortable and confident, maximizing our chances of success. Our goal is to create a positive and enjoyable learning experience for all involved.
